We are in the porcess of doing our yearly SEO check-up and one of the strategies we are considering is 'strategic linking' how my vendor puts it. What this means is that we are going ot be buying keywords on select publishers with the goal to raise the natural/organic search result for that particular keyword.
I would like to know if this is still a best practice and if you have ever done what results did you attain :)

Do you mean, buying a text link from a site, but having the hypertext link containing relevanat keywords.
If so, I do not have experience with that. I am not sure if it is best practice, but it sounds good to me........
I would make sure the referrer site/pages have a above par PR and would make sure that are coming from relevant sources, if not, I say no go, if this service tilts on the the expensive side.
But I give you a (thumbs up) for building out your SEO.

Thanks caugas...
This is what I mean... on forbes.com/technology look at the mid-left of the page. The section starts with the typical advertisement title followed by the paid link insertions.

I see, that is intresting......... I don't know.......I wonder if forbes sells those ad links or if it is a ad network that forbes participates in.
Another question to ask is, do those types of links count significantly because they may be rolated vs. a static link.
Does anyone else want to chime in?
