View Full Version : MSN Backlinks Missing, Any Idea?
I checked with one of my site backlink and it is 838 results in MSN
The fact that once I click on page 3 the number of links drops from 838 to 56 is a complete nightmare but I guess some sort of technical issue?
can anyone help me in this
Thanks in advance

Those "total" numbers at MSN Search are way off, and heavily over-inflated. Try it with a site: search and you can see it. A site that has maybe 20 pages will say hundreds there until you keep clicking to the end, and then it'll give the correct number.

838 is the true figure, thing is MSN will only show upto 2 listings from each domain when you are scrolling down and seeing where they are coming from so although you have at least 838 backlinks indexed by MSN all of them are coming from a maximum of 56 seperate domains or a minimum of 26. The site: thingie is definitely broke or something.

In my experience, using the site: search function gives you wrong figures but Marcia is correct, to find out the real number, go to the last page and you'll see that there are changes in "Page x of xxx results" numbers.
Thanks a lot friends, so which count should i take?

Yahoo's Site explorer is probably a better way to see how many backlinks you have and where they are coming from http://siteexplorer.yahoo.com (it will only show upto 1000 though), if you have registred your site with google webmaster tools that will show you where the majority if not all of your backlinks are coming from http://www.google.com/webmasters/

We are flattered, but...

For those of you who use some of the advanced query syntax in our search engine such as link:, linkdomain: and inurl:, you may have noticed that this functionality has been recently turned off. We have been seeing broad use of these features by legitimate users but unfortunately also what appears to be mass automated usage for data mining. So for now, we have made the tough call to block all queries with these operators.
We are doing our best to get this back online as soon as possible in a manner that allows folks that use this functionality for real queries. We have a few good ideas up our sleeve on how to enable this, but want to make sure we are making the right changes that will give you the functionality you want....
For a while after they cut this off at MSN Live, you could get the MSN results on HotBot... but, alas, no longer.
MSN had the best link search going, because you could do compound searches... ie, perform a search within the backlinks.
Let's hope it comes back soon.
Thanks for the information, but hot bot results are different from MSN results right?
MSN back link is back, but something missing in it, any idea?
