Hi,

We are doing affiliate marketing and as well as SEO. and now facing duplicacy problem. Becauase if my 100 affiliate links to my site with different tracking URLs like http://www.abc.com/?source=af1 .... My http://www.abc.com/ is already indexed by major search engine database. So, it can create problem, on different pages we have the same content and navigation.

Can anybody suggest me how I can disallow this type of pages. One way is to add "nofollow" tag but affiliates not allow this type of tag generally.

Thanks,
Deelip

If I were you I would add a nofollow metatag to all pages on your domain that have the ?source= attached to the URL as you describe.

This is not something your affiliates can allow or disallow, they should optimize their own pages on their own URL and you have a right to tell the serach engines which pages on your domain (your own) you'd like indexed in favour of other pages (the ones with the affiliate ID).

Thanks, but can you please explain me with example.

If your site is www.example.com, you would want all your pages indexed and ranking. To avoid duplicate content issues that turn out in favour of your affiliates, you exclude the pages on your domain with an affiliate id from being indexed. Let's say your affiliates link to you by adding an ?aid=number to the url. You should add the <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> tag to all pages with the affiliate id.

www.example.com/product/ don't have the tag
www.abc.com/?aid=5 and www.example.com/product/?aid=5 do have the tag

This way, affiliates are not penalized and can optimize the pages of their own domain www.example.com
