Hi,

I recently bought a paid licence for WebCEO, there was no mention of the VAT charge until after I payed. Also I can get no response from their support email!

Should they even be charging VAT, I live in the UK they do not.

*Should they even be charging VAT*

It would appear so...

Not too sure on this one but I would say if they are trying to charge VAT AFTER you have paid for the license and not during chekout I would ask for your money back. Put simply, this is a dirty tactic and I for one would be evaluating a competing product.

Hi,

second, as I remember when buying the licence you are asked to enter your VAT number not to be charged. It is not WebCEO who charges you VAT, it is their payment processor SWREG and it (SWREG) states that they do not reclaim the VAT charged, you are to ask your own tax authority for that.

that is what is written in "My Account" tab in WebCEO:

A common VAT system is compulsory for member states of the European Union. The EU VAT system is imposed by a series of European Union directives, the most important of which is the Sixth VAT Directive (Directive 77/388/EC). Nevertheless, some member states have negotiated VAT exemption or variable rates for regions or territories.

When you order Web CEO, you are provided the opportunity to enter your VAT number to exempt yourself from VAT for your purchase. If during your order you enter a valid and current VAT number, VAT is not added to your order. Otherwise, our credit card processor (SWREG, http://www.swreg.org) will also collect a Value Added Tax (VAT) from your credit card account, in addition to the cost of the license you are purchasing.

In case you are not an EU-resident but have mistakenly selected an EU country from the 'Country' drop-down list, or you have failed to enter your VAT number, or have mistyped the VAT number, your credit card will undergo an additional charge.

Since SWREG doesn't make VAT refunds to our customers, you should claim this VAT back from your local tax authority.
