Hi To the Pro's out there,

Ours is a portal Hpathy.com The primary target Keywords are 'Homeopathy' and 'Homeopathic'. Currently our site is listed at number 18 and 10 in Google for these keywords respectively. We are among the top for other keywords like 'Homeopathy Medicine'.

Our site has got 600 backlinks, which is much more than atleast 14 sites listed above us.
We are 5+ years old. So age is not an issue.
We get much more traffic then most of them. Infact Alexa ranks us at No. 2 in our category.
Our site is updated much more regularly than any other listed in our cat and we produce lot of original content. The portal is respected a lot within the homeopathic community.

During the past 1 year we have tried to tweak keyword density and other on page optimization factors in many ways but we continue to rank between 15 and 18 for 'homeopathy'.

We have got a PR of 5. Nearly half the websites listed above us have same or less PR.

I know the keyword is not in our domain name but does that weigh SOOOO much?

Can any pro tell us what is it that we are doing wrong?

Your help would be greately appreciated!

The keyword in your domain would not be the underlying factor in your rank. Your site is certainly not lacking in content but how much of it is original to you only? I would ensure that your site is crawable by the search engines. Use a text only browser and ensure you can see all your site from this. I would also say that backlinks are weighted by their page ranks. i.e you could have 1000 links but your competitor could have 300 links from better quality sites. Its also weighted on links within your specific industry. Your competitor will perform better in this area if this is the case.

If you have been in this situation for as long as you say, You should consider getting a professional seo audit done for your site. Many do this for free so you should at least see what they come up with.

There may be a simple answer, a more techincal issue with your coding/server or your competitors may just be impleting better seo techniques. Consider getting as much info about your competitors sites as you can and see if anything springs up. visit here form some tools: http://www.seomoz.org/blogdetail.php?ID=1457

Hopefully you will receive a response from someone with more experience in the seo field
