I feel like I have a decent udnerstanding of how to become visible on the internet in other countries, however I am very perplexed about how to actually capture sales in other countries. What sort of set up do you need to do this as far as a shopping cart, bank account etc. We currently do all of our business in the US and are trying to get our minds around how to move into the Mexican market.

Thanks
Casey

Latin-American countries have non-trust people with the internet tools (shopping websites). The numbers are increasing right now but it will take some years to have some good quantity like on the US.

What I can suggest you is to have some regional local number or local representative (outsourcing) in which the potential customers can feel some back up on their investment.
For example: DELL computers hired some regional software companies to handle the Customer Service Dept. I think that it can make more real the company itself.

Saludos,
Carlos

As a general rule, the more you localize, the easier to sell. And the more information and garantees you give, the more trust you build.

I can tell you that I would not give my credit card to a busienss that does not even have a phone number and a mailing list easy to find on a website, no matter what country it might be in.

I agree on having clear contact information available. But what about a shopping cart and currency issues...how do you work with that?

Is it just better to eliminate the shopping cart and just have customers call to place an order.

Sometimes, yes.
