View Full Version : Helping clients with a 301 account

Just wondering if there is anything wrong with this.

Let's say I have a bunch of clients that happen to have multiple domain names registered. Obviously from an SEO and user point of view, you want each client to pick 1 domain that becomes their primary domain, and you want to simply 301 redirect all others to that domain.

The problem is that alot of clients just have their other domains either forwarded or parked through their registrar account. Now most registrar accounts forwards are really only 302 redirects.

Would it be a problem for me to setup a cheap hosting account at someplace like 1and1 hosting, and basically host these other client domains for the purpose of having a 301 redirect in place. So essentially the master domain on the hosting account goes nowhere....but a single .htaccess file controls sending the other clients urls to the real destination.

Does anyone see any issues with this? Primarily I am trying to avoid having clients open up un-necessary hosting accounts.

Thanks!

As a followup......does it really matter if there are multiple domains on a shared IP for just a 301 purpose?
