What's the threshold for Keyword Spamming? Seems like a fine line between ensuring your content is targeting the right set of keywords vs. unethically loading up your page with the keyphrase to the extent that usability is affected.
Does anyone know of a resource to determine this?
Does one SE have a different criteria as opposed to the next one? Yahoo vs. Google vs. MSN?

Personally, I like the text on my clients sites to look natural. I would guess that the SEs like it to look this way to.
While at Uni I studied some natural language processing and remember hearing something along the lines of the core subject of an article will natural represent 5% of the text.
So basically :D I always aim for 4-7% weighted more towards the start of the document and at the end.
Might be right, might be wrong. Who knows ?

I would not recommend using a fixed or even roughly pre-determined number of keywords in each of your pages, this in itself would look false. Instead, write a short list of a dozen or so terms which you'd like to appear in search results for. If these terms are appropriate within a sentence whilst writing your article then use them, don't feel that you have to fit them all in though. If you miss a term out because you'd have to drastically re-write your copy, it's probably not worth doing and you'll most likely broad match for the term from other synonyms found on the page anyway. By writing your terms down with pen and paper, this uses a different part of your brain compared to copying and pasting a list on your PC, so should help you integrate the terms without even consciously doing it.

Agreed. I believe you should included as many keywords as possible up until the point whereby the quality of the text and the user experience is compromised.
SE's ability to recognise words adjacent to primary keywords and the recognition of synonyms have been steps taken to recognise context and relevance keywords and help those trying to create great descriptive content.
