2 people have viewed sites with a GoogleBar on IE7 and they come up with PageRank 3.

I and a colleage have IE6 with a GoogleBar which displays the same pages with a pageRank of 3.

What's going on here?

one of the pages is: www.spanishbars.com

(....Since writting this, my pageRank seems to have caught up. But alot of sites pageranks seem to be up and down at the moment.)

It depends on which datacenter the PageRank comes from. When I did a live pagerank on the site I got this:

Average PR: 3.8 | Max PR: 4 | Min PR: 3
Summary for www .spanishbars.com/

I don't think that it will make any diffrence if you use IE6 or IE7...

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I wouldn´t use the toolbar anyway, as this is a way to tell google about your behavour with seo and other things.

Google shouldn´t get that information, even if you do only whitehat seo.

Dennis,

You bring up a very interesting point, and not something I had thought much about previously. Does anyone have documentation that would help validate this concept? It honestly wouldn't surprise me if it somehow affected rankings now.

There are tonnes of ways it will be glaringly obvious to Google if you delve into SEO or not, and as SEO becomes more and more widespread it will become less of an issue. Unless you are churning out 100,000's of sites each month I don't think you need to worry about Google tracking you personally. ;)

Adsense - Adwords - Whois data - link patterns - CMS usage - optimised areas on page (common keyword use) - basic keyword targeting - etc.

Google knows. ;) It's better to assume that and factor it in than spend time worrying about it (unless of course it is profitable for you to do so!).

Rich - yeh TB PR does seem to fluctuate a lot since the last update - as Xcon says it's down to which DC the data comes from at that time, but I've never seen it fluctuate for so long after an update - it is a little odd. Your site shows PR4 to me.
