New site, has hard times getting Google to update the index

Hi, I have been struggling with this for couple of weeks now. I have bought a domain name, http://www.marketground.com, which I plan to convert to a popular classifieds forum. I bought it in September 2006. It had (has) PR of 4. I thought it was a good deal.

Except, I just can't get Google and MSN to reindex this site and show new pages of my site. It still (two months later!) shows the old 66 pages from the old site. The information of the old site is totally unrelated to this new one. By the way, Yahoo shows the new pages already.

Last month I created Google sitemap for MarketGround. When I log into the sitemap account, it says last crawl was on August 19th! And nothing since then! Yet when I look at logs, I can see googlebot there everyday.

Could you please tell me whats wrong? I waited for a month patiently. And now I am starting to get very worried.

Thank you very much!

Here are a few suggestions:

Use Google Sitemap's diagnostics section. Ensure your site has been verified. Although it may have been verified in the past, I've seen where I've had to re-verify the same site again.

Check your robots.txt file to ensure you don't have any entries denying Google from indexing your pages.

Other suggestions...

Have you tried looking at the different Google servers. Could be that you just happen to look at the Google server that hasn't updated its index of your site.

Another possible suggestion is to review your Google sitemap to ensure the dates are accurate and reflects the most recent date possible. Then re-submit via Google Sitemaps.

I haven't checked, but if those old pages were offline and/or supplemental, then it'll take a while for the site to get crawled, in spite of new pages on it. A lot can depend on current and recent IBLs and PR - and time. It always takes time.

Are you getting new IBL's from other websites ?

This can help you get indexed faster.

If your website is still caching an older version of the website, I would recommend to start a new linking campaign. First include all the quality and unique content in your site. Then ask other related people in your industry to link to your new site. By increasing the amount and quality of your links then the spiders will visit this new site more often and refresh your structure. I also agree with submitting a sitemap to the Google's webmaster central to gain a little bit of perspective on what is the frequency and deepness of your crawling.

Finally, be patient.
