So Google's AdSense division changes the AdSense ads from "Ads by Google" to "Ads by Goooooooooooogle". They say on their whats new page (https://www.google.com/adsense/new) that "We're currently running a test with new branding features on Google ads."

What are your thoughts about it? Childish? Cool? Will improve CTR?

I think it is dumb.... the "Gooooooogle" .... not AdSense. Looks like a glitch to me. Someone must be smoking something over there. ;)

To be frank, I'd like it if they didn't display anything but the ads themselves. I don't know if this would hurt conversions though so it is just a personal opinion. I certainly wouldn't want to do anything to negatively affect CTR as I like the CTR and revenue I earn!

When I saw it on my site I thought maybe it was a joke. I don't like it, it looks childish. I see no creative value.
Like Google, dislike the cutsie attempt on this one. Why did they do it?

I don't think any webmasters like it. IMHO it just calls more attention to the ad units themselves.

Annnnnnnd.......thatssssss bad? :D

If it brings the Adwords buyer relevant/qualified traffic and G keeps sending my checks I dont see a problem.

Its pretty lame. Its just Googl's way of drawing attention to themselves instead of drawing attention to the ads they are serving.

But they do get the attention... people are Google fixated and when the name is elongated it catches the eye and draws people to the box...

Good point. But ultimately I think its kind of tacky.

I agree. It looks tacky.

Does anyone have any hard evidence that it generates more revenue? That might change my mind. :D

read google founder's term paper on search from stanford university.

they are tricksters, pranksters and now that all eyes are on 'em, they seem to like to do things "just for the hell of it"

this could be a prime example.

cheers.
