I optimised this site using meta, description, title tags some link exchanges during the end
of august it it new late sept 06 and its has not appeared on the search engines eg. google.

How much longer will it take, how is ranking on search engines

Do I need to submit to search engines?

What specific phrases were you hoping it would rank for?

It is indexed - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cf+cases

http://72.14.235.104/search?q=cache:0lmZtLNVZtsJ:www.cfcases.co.uk/+cf+cases&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1

how is ranking on search engines measured Success measurement would depend on whether e.g. the site is selling anything.

Didn't you discuss these issues with your client before you started?

yes it does list in google but these keywords are the old ones

the new keywords are;
CF Cases UK, military cases, laptop cases, computer cases, light cases, custom built cases.

new description
UK cases company specialising in custom built cases, light cases, military cases and plastic cases

these terms don't appear when I type them in google

one more important things is when someone types the clients url sometimes
the forum threads like this one appear how do stop this?

A no index robots tag. Or just go to the google results page and keep bumping another page of the site til maybe google sees that and pushes it to the no. 1 spot over a forum page. That could get your site taken off the index though, so that's not that wise. :)

some link exchanges during the end

Try not to link farm, just go to top ranked forums about your sites topic and ad to your sig a keyword laden link in indented bold letters to your site. That will get you high search engine ranking.

skywalker, you need to get a better understanding of how search engines rank pages. Simply using meta information, especially the keywords tag, is not enough. Although the force may be within you, that unfortunately doesn't cut it. ;)

Along with on-page content and internal linking, the quality and quantity of inbound links to your site as a whole will help increase the rankings as well. Since the forums that you are posting request for advice have many links, they are ranking for the terms you mention. I would venture to say that if you added "CF cases UK" to the title of this thread, it may soon rank highly for that term. (I have not even searched it so I do not know the difficulty of that phrase)

By your bolded point above, I suppose you mean that the site does not appear in the rankings for searches of those terms? Or the site is appearing but not using your keywords tag or description?

SERP = search engine result page

Find the cached date by clicking on the green text near your listing that says "cached." Look at the content at the top and you should see date. For extra credit, note that Google recently changed the way they handle cache dates (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/video-crawl-dates-in-the-google-cache/).

Unfortunately, this is a forum, so I don't have more time to help you. Take some time and read other threads in this forum and you will gain more knowledge about the whole process. Good luck!

---------------------------------------

Yes yes and yes to the above, it is using the old keywords and description
but not the new ones i added.

(can we stop using the company name and keywords) incase they turn up
when the client types those in.

so please Chris guide to solve this problem

How do I get google to crawl my site again as it was crawled last on the 10th August 2006?

You need to get a book on SEO and take the time to read it and then make changes to the site.

If you start making content changes a little at a time the spiders will come back more frequently as they start to see that you regularly change your content... if they keep stopping by and it is always the same they have been know to take longer getting back unless you have managed to grab a solid spot on the front page.

If you want the search engines to use your new keywords and description tags, then my advice is to google forums about your sites topic. Then post in those forums with links in your sig. When google crawls those forums, it will visit the link to your site, therefore updating it's listings for your sites keywords and description tags.

But you won't be doing that here at SearchEngineWatch, will you?
We've opted not to allow sig files within posts, although you may take advantage of editing the custom user title that appears under your member name. That user title, in combination with your user name, effectively works as a signature to everyone on the forum.

Even the forums that allow sigs it is generally good etiquette to post information and help contribute before dropping links.

Besides, the forums could end up ranking ahead of the OPs site.

For one thing, not only do some forums frown on sig links, but their worth is minimal at best. Please believe that URL drops on forums are definitely not the cure-all and be-all of getting a site to rank at the search engines.

I think the suggestion was to use the forum to act as a way to get the engines to see the site and the optimization that was done.

Still however that theory should be expanded out of the scope of just forums, and to a wider link strategy in general

Funny I created this whole guerilla marketing method for a group in the hip hop industry where they used the forums to drive traffic to their clients pages as well as eventually get a solid following of regulars at their own more niched forum.

Required interns who could talk the talk and had serious knowledge of the industry.... to be a well respected persona on a forum is a lot like having street cred! You can't come without bringing a serious A game!!!
