Hi, I'm a newbie to these forums so please go easy. ;)

I have created a page for a specific offline marketing campaign that is not linked to from anywhere, including from within my own site. However, these pages are shown in the SERP's on all engines. Could this be down to the PPC campaign I have to support this? Otherwise, I cannot see how the SE's can know about these pages?

Many thanks

There could be referrers in open stats, or there could be links on scraper sites and/or those running PPC ads as content.

Scrapers are one issue that is hard to combat. But if it is search traffic that you are worried about, I would throw up a robots.txt disallow for all of your PPC landing pages.

Could you clarify what you mean by this?

Some websites do not password protect their web statistics software (such as Webalizer), sometimes resulting in search engines spidering the data. This means that links to referral sites (websites that link into the site in question) get crawled, followed and counted as an inbound link to your page.

Dodgy websites used to inject access logs with fake referral traffic in order to appear in web stats and gain an inbound link. You may have noticed this if you've checked out a website which is logged as linking to you, but there's no link on the site.

Dodgy websites used to inject access logs with fake referral trafficSome still do log spamming. You don't see too much of it anymore but it's still done some.

Good explanation!
