Hi Everyone,

I have built my own custom built blog application which I have developed to my own exact needs, whilst using best practice methods. My questions is: Is it better to use a ready made blog application (WordPress, Blogger etc.) or your own custom built blog?

As I see it, the main advantage of using a third-party application like WordPress is for search engine indexing. For my custom blog I have an RSS feed which pings the Weblogs server when updates are made.

The reason for building a custom blog was to integrate fully into my website and to allow for complete customisation and to keep up with the latest SEO techniques.

My blog is located at acmultimedia.co.uk/blog - any feedback will be appreciated.

Does anyone have any thoughts or possible problems with a custom built blog?

Thanks,

Andy

I don't think that having either a custom built blog or a 3rd party blog makes a big effect on rankings. It's all about preference. If your only concern is SEO ... choose the platform that you personally like more.

People need to stop dissecting rankings to little molecules. You should not judge Google as if it's a machine. Instead think of an engineer who's behind it who creates the algorithm and what would he feel is a bad tactic and a good one for the millions of people that use Google every day.
