I am about to start setting up several small websites. We have a main site, www.domain.com, and we were thinking that instead of going out and registering a bunch of new domain names, we would just set some up like: newsite.domain.com newsite2.domain.com and so on.
Will doing this cause any problems with getting crawled by Google?
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I am fairly new to this.
Thanks in advance for any input.

You can do subdomains if it makes sense but I'm not sure saving $6/year is a good reason. One advantage to subs is that your new subdomains might be able to avoid the sandbox-effect if you do everything correctly and the sites are legitimately related to each other and have a legitimate reason for being sub-domains. Think: washingtondc.craigslist.org
On the other hand, done poorly or with the wrong intent (or appear to have the wrong intent) this approach could fit the profile of certain blackhat practices and could cause ranking problems.

It is SO cheap to take multi-domain (reseller) hosting and then you can have those domains on the account, each with its own control panel, stats and all - full hosting packages for each one.

Makes sense if you are trying to make a brand, otherwise no.
