Hello,

In researching SEO ranking software, I'm finding that some claim that they don't hurt your listing status...

It seems that this type of software, run from your own PC - somehow queries the SEs, and they can see/feel these robotic inquiries. Not sure why some software companies note this fact...but it seems scary.

The last thing I want is for Google to ban my IP or something because I (or my software) is hitting their site.

Any ideas what this is all about? Also...

I'm looking for a good, simple program. I just want to enter a list of keywords, and see where I stand in the SERPs on major search engines.

Yeah, you've probably run across posts about Web Position Gold. I think there's something in Google's TOS telling you they don't approve of automated querying. That said, just about everyone I know uses some scripts for querying the SE's, though they're usually custom or at least an eclectic toolkit in order to minimize fingerprints.

I guess this is a matter of risk tolerance.

Hi Denemante!

Web Position Gold is helpful if you need to track large amounts of keywords. That said if all you really need is "a good, simple program," you could try the Site Point Forums Keyword Tracker and Ranking Tool (http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/)

Do not use Seo softwares for things like submission of your website and creating pages like doorway pages otherwise it would be ok if you use the software for keywords, checking for html, link checking etc

o track your positioning on Google SERPs Google suggests using their API. Supposedly if you use it, they have no problem with you querying large numbers.

I found it useless to check your rankings every day. This is when you become an SEO Junkie. :-)
