I have currently undergone with the very tidious process of building out our backlinks. I have done the following.

1. Found applicable Free Direcotries and Submitted links, Short Descrip, and keywords.

2. Contacted local web masters, BBB, town libriaries, local chamber of conferences.

3. Contacted a few web masters of editorial sites or trade specific sites to send links to my retail site.

4. Added one link to Wikpeida in a very applicable artical.

However, I am positve that many of these sites have enacted links to our site. Because I can see the forwarding links. However, when I use the google toolbar, I cannot see the newly implemented backward links pointing to our site.

Am I looking in the right place?
Do I need to be more patient?
Please advise or shed your thoughts.
Thanks,

Caugas

Google only shows a sampling of the total number of links they recognize. Even with that, they only update the data every so often. Yahoo is a much better measurement if you want to see who is linking to you. Simply use "link:http://www.yourdomain.com/" in the search bar.

You are correct, after checking the information that you provided about Yahoo accounting for backlinks with more accuracy you were dead on!

I counted about 8 times the many back links being reported using Yahoo technology.

Therefore if Google reported 100 backlinks
Yahoo reported 800.

Thanks David! Very Helpful.....
