View Full Version : Conversion Rate & Date Range
Two questions on adwords:
1. How is it possible that I am getting conversion rates of over 100% for some keyword phrases? Is this possible?
2. When using the date range functionality, If I select the first range using the orange calendar (say 1st-12th May) and the second range using the blue calendar (say 1st-12th June), do I get the % increase or decrease for the 1st-12th June over the 1st-12th May?

Sounds like you're talking about Google's Analytics package for AdWords.
As far as the calanders go, I think you're mixing them up. The blue calandar, or the lower calandar, should be your starting date. The orange calandar, or the upper one, should be your ending date.
This might explain why you are showing conversion rates with 100%+.

It seems as if you are viewing it correctly,
At what point during the process is your conversion recorded?

Just to clarify as your reply is ambigous in terms of acknowledging the point
In your previous post you said May 1-12 in the orange calandar and June 1-12 in the blue calandar. It should be the opposite as quoted on the Help section:
Define your starting (earliest) date range on the lower calendar; define your current or ending date range on the upper calendar.
As far as when the conversions are recorded, I would assume they are computed after the data is gathered and analyzed before its sent to you. Since the data is sent to you in daily bulk segments, there's no reason that I can think of to do it in real-time or quazi-real-time but I honestly have no clue since you're given the data in bulk, here's what the help section says:
Report data is generally updated every 24 hours, but data may sometimes take longer to appear in your account. AdWords cost information is imported once daily, to import the previous day's information.
Which if I am reading correctly, further supports my assumption.

Yes, it look like I had the calendars mixed up and I was using the lower calendar as the end date.
As for the conversion, its being recored when visitors have clicked through the landing page and arrived at the purchase page.It is only when they get to the purchase page that the conversion is recorded.
Anyway, thanks for the help guys!

If you are measuring people landing on the purchase page there is always the possibility that people come back a couple or more time before the actual purchase... you really need to have the tag on the confirmation page which would then give you true numbers.

Aussie is correct,
There will be times when your visitors are at the purchase process but doesn't complete it.
What you need to do is set the conversion tracking to a page that appears after the transaction is completed.
