Hi everyone

Firstly, I need to say I'm a real amateur so I hope this isn't a very silly question.

I work as a translator, and, with a web design colleague, have created a 'microsite' in French for a British company who have an English language webpage. This French microsite is via a link from the homepage. I would like to have this microsite come up as listed in French directories.

I read somewhere, that when submitting to directories such as DMOZ and Yahoo (the French versions), you need to put in the homepage URL. But this is in English, I would like to put in the subpage URL which contains the French content.

Is this possible or will the reviewer go to the homepage, see it's in English and reject it?

Hi Anna,

You can certainly submit the French inside page if the homepage by default is in English.

One example I found is in here:

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/China/Jiangsu/Suzhou/Business_and_Economy/

One entry is Kunshan Precision Die Co. which is the English version of the pages which is in Simplified Chinese by default.

I think it's within the discretion of the editor. I found some English and French language pages in this directory:

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/France/Government/

Hope this helps.

You say 'This French microsite is via a link from the homepage' - in which case, you should submit the homepage to DMOZ. The link from the hoimepage should be very easy to see, both from the point of view of the viewing public and from the DMOZ editor.

Although you may find plenty of examples of inner pages for other languages listed within DMOZ this is technically incorrect. It's possible this was the old way of doing things, or an editor mistake. Sometimes an inner page is listed when the link from the front page does not work, or is very hard to see.

The proper way for a multi-language web site to be listed is to use the same top level URL for all listings in each language.
