1. Build high quality content with original material that is highly informative.
2. Put up a blog and blog for 3 or 4 months and then add up blog to Robin Good's blog directory list.

1. submit to lots and lots of free directories
2. write and submit articles
3. I also do reciprocal linking to quality, relevant sites. I do this manually and am pretty selective.
4. Post in forums

Basically, with doing the above, I have managed to achieve very good rankings in msn and yahoo and decent rankings in google, but making progress. :)

All the forums I participate in are included on that list. However, I am only a member of about 8 forums that I post in regularly because I don't think I would have the time to participate in any more than that. :)

Forums do help somewhat with traffic and rankings, but more importantly they teach me so much and they are the reason my site is now ranking where it is. Knowledge is power. :D
