Hey,

I run a site providing information on the skin disease acne.

acnetreatmentinfo.org

Its a new site with little traffic. I've started the process of link building. Although no-one has responded yet. I get the impression its a heavily spammed subject with many spam paranoid webmasters.

Out of desire to jump the competition... and pure interest, I have decided to throw some money into marketing. About $400.

I'd be very interested in any suggestions you all have. I've read many posts in this forum recently but was wondering if strategies change for different types of site. I'm not plugging a product or affiliate... I just want people to read my articles.

Particulary, where would you be looking to trade/buy links? Is the yahoo dir worth it if I get jammed at the bottom of the list?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Hi henster,

Link Building in the health/medical market is very tough with so many sites selling dodgy prescription drugs and wonder cures. My guess for why no one is replying would either be:

The sites you're asking are either not related to your niche audience or feel that it conflicts with their own interests.
They do not trust that you won't change the site once it becomes popular into an arbitrage or drug reselling portal.
The email that you sent them was not enticing enough, or looked automated and unpersonal.

Most good and comprehensive SEO Books will teach you how to perform an effective link building campaign, so I wouldn't want to re-write the book. Maybe spend $70 on a decent book, before splashing out $400 on an AdWords campaign that could prove costly and ineffective.

Cheers for the advice, I'll pick one up. I agree about the difficulty of healthcare link building. "Build it and they will come... much later."

It seems long tail keywords, article directories and paid directory listings may be the only ways in.

For what purports to be an informational resource the site seems fairly light on content and not really link worthy, and sticking AS on it at this stage is probably premature, IMO.
