Hi,
Please bare with me, as I am a complete newbie when it comes to SEO. My one post to date on these forums is proof of that (I lurked long before though!).
One of my new sites, www.fullfitness.net seems to have only been indexed in the front page. At first the menu was DHTML + Javascript, and I thought Google might have been having trouble with it. I changed it to HTML, and still Google appears to only have indexed the one page.
I have setup a sitemap with Google, and while it is downloaded regularly, the pages are still not being indexed. What am I missing here?

Russell

Looking at your homepage I don't see reason why it can't be indexed. But maybe you have to wait for a while. It should be indexed soon.
I noticed that you barely got any page linking to your site. I'd recommend to get your site listed on directories or look for possible people to link to your site.
Don't worry too much.

Your site is setup correctly. At least I didn't see anything wrong in the 45 seconds that I glanced over it.
However, as pointed out by ewc21, you no inbound links pointing to your website. This is going to effect how deeply Google will spider. Many sites who are deemed as less important, only get their home page, or possibly home page, and first depth of links spidered.
The more authoritative in your industry that your site becomes, the deeper Google will go in spidering your site.
What should you do right now?
Two things. First, keep building great content. This will insure that other sites see you as a valuable and resource, and will help build your credibility, as well as natural traffic.
Secondly, spend a good portion of each day seeking inbound links. This should be fairly easy, since you have a great site.
Do both of these, and in a few months, you site will be doing very well indeed.

Thank you ewc21 & vayapues for both your comments and suggestions. It means a great deal.
I don't think it is a time-related issue, as this has been the case for countless months, nearing a year. Both your suggestions that perhaps it has to do with lack of inbound links is very valid. I have three sites currently linking to me (page ranks ranging from 3 to 5) and am waiting for DMOZ admission, but neither show up in Google when I use the "Link:" qualifier. I have a pagerank of 3 or 4, so I thought maybe Google understood my site had something to offer (I guess pagerank is not as important as I thought).
Sitemap data tells me Google knows certain sites are linking to me, as it lists the keywords they are using to link to the site.
I will definitely look to connect with more sites of my genre though. I find that the biggest sites are either commercial and don't want to link, or are made in 1986 by individuals (j/k ... kinda) who are no longer working on the sites.
I thought the issue was something else originally though, as I used to have links to two articles on my main page (not on the menu, but underneath the introduction text), and both were indexed by Google until I removed the articles (didn't fit what I wanted the site to be). That led me to believe there was something wrong with the other pages Google was not indexing, which led me to post here.

I dont think linking or time is an issue ... by any chance do you have multiple domains regitered and they have the same content ... I would think that its an issue of dup content ...

I'd also put it down to insufficient link juice, only 2 results on a "contain the term" search speaks for itself...

I am pretty sure that its a dup issue ... if you look at the the home page it has a PR 4 and the rest is 0 ...

No, there are no duplicate domains/content. I thought perhaps the image intensive pages were what was setting Google off? I'm not sure, that's really stretching it.
I have purchased a domain name that was listed in Yahoo! under fitness and which expired, but I haven't even directed it to my site as of yet.

Following up, I just looked and the homepage cache date is May 11, with interior page being cached May 12.
This isn't a dup issue, it's a matter of link juice and internal linking. As a matter of note, there might be enough "current" running through to get pages in the index that are one click away from the homepage, but additional click levels in are a different story.

A "site:" lookup in Google reveals results 1-4 of 54, with the dreaded note, "If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included."
When you click on that link, it shows the remaining 50 pages that all have the same description (which comes from the META description tag) and very similar page titles. Fix that, and pay close attention to Marcia's post above, and you should be looking good in a few months...
There is also a minor canonical URL problem that can be easily fixed with a global 301 redirect from the non-www to the www pages or vice versa so the Google Page Rank becomes consistent, but that is minor to the problems mentioned above.

Thank you Brian & Marcia, I am working to get more sites linking to mine. It's an uphill battle, but I shall keep at it. Hopefully more 'link juice' will help in getting the site indexed more, and appear higher in search results.
I am also changing page names and descriptions to make each page more unique. The problem lies in that, other than the exercise, the pages really have the same context, so finding new descriptions, or keywords is difficult.
I shall tell you how these changes help me in the upcoming months. Once again, thanks for the suggestions.
Use G sitemap and Bread crumb
Example Home(with link a href) >> Service(with link a href) >> Service name
and you can also use include file if it is a asp page like includes, u can take advantage on it in many ways like optimized keywords and easy indexing links.
All the best

I'm having similar problems with my site not getting indexed. I do have inbound links that point to my homepage, which is indexed by Google.
Do you think that my deeper level pages will get indexed if I add links to them in addition to the links that are going to my homepage?

Hey,
In google it shows 63 pages of ur site have been indexed... Do drop in the search box and find the above result.

Hi there,
I am new to all this seo stuff too, but see the advantages offered by it.
I seem to be having a very similar experience as "fitness" guy.
I have built a site with the limited knowledge that i have with seo - but i at least thought that it was built well and would be easily listed ny the SE's.
its not totally finished as its work in progress, but I am pretty certain that i am still in the sand box with google as it is a new domain. But recently, both yahoo and msn have listed it - But only the hompage.
i am completley stumped. I understand the importance of in bound linlks, but have no idea where to get them.
ANy help on this would be fab
