There are a lot of Google's that people don't know about. It's time to spill the beans and have some fun.

... ah, it could be funky DNS slyness but let's remind ourselves who own the netblock (http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=http://72.14.207.99/) where most of those sites can be found.

I've been PM'd and asked to explain what's going on here.

These sites have IP addresses which belong to Google. It's more, therefore, than just some server scraping Google. You can configure your DNS to point a domain name you control at any IP address (one of Google's for example) but (and I'm not a DNS expert) that domain tends to need to accept that or be configured to just accept anything.

What's more likely in the scenarios above is that Google's bought up the IP addresses (kinda) and expanded. These domains are often abandoned legacy arrangements where the domain may still be active but no one is paying for the hosting any more. Google's just happened to have grown into the space. When the domain rental runs out the quirky situation will come to and end.

Though it's also possible Google employees can buy and host domains through Google on the cheap.

Yeah, Threadwatch had (http://www.threadwatch.org/node/3871) something like this earlier, pointing over to this (http://www.netdragger.com/index.php/main/entry/reverse-ip-tool-and-google-servers/) write-up with a ton more domains and this guess (http://www.netdragger.com/index.php/main/entry/reverse-ip-tool-and-google-followup/) as to why people do it, which is that some might think they're going to get Google's PR10.
