In firefox when you do a search through the Google Toolbar it will show results #'s. What are those results #'s referring to?

ie. When doing a search for hawaiian vacations in the toolbar... the toolbar indicates "986,000 results". If you hit enter on that search or go to google.com and do the same search, the results # is completely different. In this case the actual search shows 2,350,000 results.

Why do these differ? What does the "results" mean in the toolbar?

When you do a search on Google you may be searching any one of a number of data centres/indexes.

This tool is a great way to see this in action:

yeah, i know that, but for the results to vary by as much as 2 million results or more? One search i tested on Anger Management showed 2,890,000 in the toolbar and 12,100,000 in the actual search results. And it will happen on just about any search you do. I can understand a variance of a couple hundred thousand maybe, but 9 mil... thats gotta be some different data they're showing in the toolbar or old data or something.

Speaking of the Firefox Google Search Bar...
Is there anyway to get rid of it. I find it annoying.

I don't have that option. I am opp. through Microsoft ME (I should get with the times right? :) ) Is it possible that is the reason that option is not under the view toolbars area?

seriously... you running that on a commodore 64 or what?

Well since i havent used ME since ummmm 1998, i really have no clue on how to get rid of it.

But that would probably explain why it doesnt show up.
